Welcome to the MathWorks-Excellence-in-Innovation wiki!

The MathWorks Excellence in Innovation program provides a list of challenging projects with industry relevance centered around technology trends. Motivation for educators and students might be:

• Compelling projects based on industry needs
• Gaining skills and experience on industry relevant problems
• MathWorks endorsements and gadgets

Although the program has been created to target educators and students, in particular to provide a list of projects that can be used as capstone projects for senior design classes or as master or PhD theses, anyone, including industry professionals, can work on these projects if they wish.

How to participate

Choose a project that you wish to undertake and complete the form using the project number located at both the top and bottom of the project description page. If you plan on selecting multiple projects, please complete a separate form for each project. Once submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to you, containing more details and a summary of the information you provided in the form. Although a deadline will be given (four months from the sign-up date), it is not mandatory, and you may request more time if needed. We utilize the deadline to determine if the project is still of interest to you after the four-month period, in the event we have not received prior communication from you. If you are working in a team, only one person should sign up as the point of contact for the project. The remaining team members' names will be provided by the point of contact in the submission form, ensuring that everyone receives the rewards.

Instructions for project solution submission

If you have already registered your intent to complete one of the projects (via this link), follow the steps below for completing your project and become eligible for the rewards:

1. Create a GitHub repository and select the open source BSD 2-Clause or MIT license to share your solution publicly. You can create your own repository from this template, just follow these simple instructions

2. Upload your MATLAB and/or Simulink solution into your repository. We suggest to complete these first steps as you start working on your project to ease collaboration with your team mates and for code version control.

3. Let us know here that your solution is ready for evaluation by including a link to the repository. Make sure you use the same email address when you first registered.

If you submit your solution following these steps, we will review it and if the project requirements are satisfied you will receive the rewards as outlined below and when you registered.

Rewards

Below is the list of rewards we currently provide for accepted solutions:

• Official MathWorks certificate of completion
• Endorsement for positions at MathWorks (internship, full time, student ambassador)
• LinkedIn recommendation
• MathWorks T-shirts
• Selected contributions will receive a $200 Amazon gift card payment

Discussion Board

To provide help as you work on the project, we have created the discussion forum to allow you to ask any questions and/or share any ideas or doubts. MathWorks engineers will do their best to respond promptly. You can also use the discussion board to seek for collaborators. Each project has a dedicated discussion forum that can be accessed from the project description page directly. Please do not hesitate to use the forum to ask any questions!

Video Tutorials

We have recently created a playlist, in our YouTube channel, of video tutorials for some of the submitted solutions to help get a better understanding on how the solutions work and how to run them. A huge thanks to all the students who volunteered for making such useful videos. If you have submitted your solution or still working on it and are interested in submitting a video tutorial of your project, please let us know. We will give you more gadgets as a sign of gratitude. Moreover, the videos will be advertised on several marketing channels including social networks, thus, your work will get high visibility important to launch your future career!
