Welcome

Welcome to the OCP Open Boot and Management Framework (OBMF) Workstream.

This workstream is part of the OCP Hardware Management Project

This workstream is a closed CLA Workstream.

Charter

Requirements and objectives for the Specification: A specification to prescribe the DC-SCM interface (or a list of recommended physical interfaces) and standardized protocol for use in boot, configuration and runtime communication between Host Processor or other devices on the Host Processor Module (HPM) and Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) on the DC-SCM Module. The new protocol and interface shall meet the following requirements:

  • Host Processor (CPU) vendor agnostic
  • Applicable to non-DC-SCM use cases
  • Reusable for other devices e.g. PCIe Cards, CXL Cards, etc.
  • Should be physical interface agnostic protocol (e.g., MCTP/PLDM)
  • Recommended physical interface choices for DC-SCM use cases
  • Supporting adoption model for vendor specific features (vendor extensions)
  • Leveraging OCP standards & DMTF standards
  • Align to existing security standards and requirements (e.g., SPDM)

Scope: Definition of protocol details including but not limited to use cases and applicability, definition of initiator and target, protocol states definitions and state transition flows, API definition, message formats and encoding, security requirements, alignment and reuse of existing communication standards defined by DMTF. Definition of firmware requirements and operation for purposes of protocol initialization and usage. Additional details and design documents to improve interoperability between vendors. Requirements pertaining to the use of other devices and specifications including but not limited to MHS, DC-SCM, Streaming Boot, DMTF MCTP, DMTF PLDM.

Out of scope: Firmware implementation, creation of any new security protocols/methodologies, electrical compliance requirements.
