build without test works; but tests failing

tests/test_formatted_text.py::test_split_lines_3 FAILED
tests/test_formatted_text.py::test_split_lines_4 FAILED

eg. this breaks autom building (installing via packet manager) in arch. as #1988 does a couple of weeks ago..
