TrialServer

You see "Upgrade this project, since it is on an unpaid trial server and has no network access."

CoCalc costs us significant money to run.

HOWEVER, WE WILL NEVER CHARGE YOU, EXCEPT AFTER YOU EXPLICITLY PURCHASE A SUBSCRIPTION OR COURSE PACKAGE.

To remove the warning message from the top of your project, at least one person must upgrade the project to run on members-only hosting and have network access. A $14/month standard subscription can be used to upgrade two projects, and also provides a 24-hour idle timeout upgrade, and more RAM and disk space.

Alternatively, once you are a paying customer, you'll find a new checkbox in Account preferences that's lets you hide the warning banner for yourself when using a free trial project.

[x] Hide free warnings: do not show a warning banner when using a free trial project (thanks for being a customer)

1. If you have already purchased upgrades

Thank you! Apply your upgrades to the project by going to the project settings page and clicking "Adjust your quotas...", then click the two checkboxes to apply your upgrades. You can easily change which projects you have upgraded at any time. (more information)

If you have purchased upgrades but have not applied network access to a project for security concerns, rest assured. Network access only makes it so CoCalc does not block outgoing connections from the project. In all cases, all incoming connections from users that are not collaborators on the project are blocked, since projects run as docker containers in a private internal network.

2. If you have not purchased upgrades yet

Go to Account --> Subscriptions and enter your credit card, then purchase a subscription. A good start is the standard subscription, which is $14/month. Need more? You can subscribe twice to the same (standard) subscription to get twice the quota upgrades.

3. If you're a student in a course

Ask your teacher/instructor to buy a course package and distribute the upgrades to the student projects (which should include yours). If it is just for a short project or a small course, they might as well want to get a "personal" subscription, which can also be used to upgrade your student project! (See §4, about collaborators)

Alternatively, if you're a student in a course, ask your instructor to enable the "Students pay" option in course settings, which makes available a special one-time $9 fee for a four month subscription to you.

In both cases, we are available to talk to the teacher/instructor directly and explain CoCalcs course functionality. Contact us at [email protected] in order to establish the contact.

4. If you have a collaborator who can purchase upgrades

Add one of your collaborators or friends to the project (in project settings) and ask them to upgrade the project using their upgrades. Only one collaborator on a project needs to upgrade it for all users of the project to fully benefit.

5. You and none of your collaborators can afford to upgrade your project

You may continue using your project for free, despite the warning message. However, please keep in mind that (1) you can't pull in external data from the internet to the project, (2) the project will get randomly restarted and runs on a very heavily loaded server, and (3) CoCalc itself really needs your support in order to survive.
