I really need to merge the 3.0.0 branch into master, but would you be able to do this against the release/3.0.0 branch?

We wanted to keep it separate to allow us to patch 2.x until we release 3.0.

Also have a look at the comment I posted in #380. I am happy to just also apply this change to 3.0

Also, I just merged #377 which changes the implementation again

Closing as we are not adding anything to 2.x anymore. Will get the 3.0.0 branch merged soon, sorry about that.
