[mlir][Transforms] Make 1:N function conversion pattern interface-based #92395
Conversation
This commit turns the 1:N dialect conversion pattern for function signatures into a pattern for `FunctionOpInterface`. This is similar to the interface-based pattern that is provided with the 1:1 dialect conversion (`populateFunctionOpInterfaceTypeConversionPattern`). No change in functionality apart from supporting all `FunctionOpInterface` ops and not just `func::FuncOp`.

LGTM, thanks!
I vaguely remember that I considered that back when I first implemented the whole conversion but I didn't really understand the relationship between FunctionOpInterface
and the call
and return
ops. I guess there simply isn't any. But this doesn't mean that having a pattern just for the interface isn't useful -- to the contrary.

Is this guaranteed to work? I suppose that the base already tests for functionLikeOpName
? But what if that op doesn't implement the FunctionOpInterface
?. Maybe there should an assert here? (I guess it should not be a match failure because whoever used the pattern must have thought that the op actually does implement the interface...)

The pattern gets an operation name as a constructor arg and only such ops are matched. Using this pattern with ops that do not implement FunctionOpInterface
is incorrect API usage. cast
will fail in such a case (I think with a failed assertion internally).

You are right! Thanks for helping me see it!
