This example illustrates the usage of $sum operator in two different ways. 1. sum as total 2. sum as count. Similar to other pages on operators, this page will be consistent and comprehensive with the example.

Hi. Thank you so much for this contribution. We appreciate your time and effort. Currently we have a project https://jira.mongodb.org/browse/DOCS-3032 to add examples to all aggregation framework as we undergo a rewrite of that section in the manual. As such, we want to use the same collection of documents for much of the aggregation section. Because of this project, we will be closing this pull request; however, we will make sure that the examples on this page include example of a count as well as a total -- similar to the first two examples in http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/sql-aggregation-comparison/ Thanks again for your work.
