To be able to pipe the output to the cpp compiler. For example:

Got it, thanks. FOSS projects still need CLAs (e.g., Clang). For example, CLAs help protect a project from IP-encumbered submissions.

Since this PR has been closed, I'll apply much the same change as a separate commit that also makes it conditional on whether -o stdout is used. Please check... and thanks again for the idea.
